Frequently Asked Questions

EXHAUST FAQs

  • This comes down to application every time, depending on the motorcycle, other intake and exhaust mods, and many other factors. For bikes with catalytic converters still installed, most of the Kelpi pipes will be passable in terms of dB levels. That said, all of our pipes can be fitted with internal mini-cat baffles to reduce the volume or increase backpressure. The Alpha pipe is highly recommended for anyone looking to have a more tame sounding muffler (but only with the baffle in). There are as many different sets of rules as there are regions across the world, and at the end of the day, it’s the rider’s responsibility to comply with relevant local laws.

  • Exhausts usually ship within 1–2 weeks after the order is placed, depending on stock and Cerakote finishes.

  • FLANKER
A high-grade 304 stainless muffler in 2.5” diameter, this pipe produces a deep, raspy note, and is designed primarily for middleweight and larger displacement sports bikes with 2-4 cylinders.

    SHORTY
The iconic Kelpi muffler. The Shorty is our most popular option with its slimline profile and a reverse cone shape to provide a classic throaty exhaust tone. Perfect for any build.

    ALPHA

Hydroformed stainless steel with a balanced tone, removable end-cap baffle with bike-specific styling. Looks right at home on both modern fully-faired sport bikes, as well as vintage builds with flowing lines.

  • Our standard baffles, tube-type baffles, and QuietCore baffles are typically paired (and sold with) our full stainless exhaust systems to match each customer’s preference for tone, performance, and overall exhaust volume. However, we can supply individual baffles if you’re able to give us accurate measurements of your exhaust setup, or are looking to add a new baffle to an existing Kelpi exhaust system.

CUSTOM SEAT FAQs

  • Our Custom seat trim is a 12mm (~0.5in) single-density foam, and is suitable for lighter riders, or when a lower overall seat height is a priority.

Our Comfort seat trim is 24mm (~ 1in), typically consisting of a 12mm medium-density foam layer, topped with 12mm soft-density foam. Both layers are stitched into the seat trim to enhance long-distance comfort. The foam densities can also be adjusted to the rider’s weight, ensuring an optimally tailored feel.

  • Depending on the materials/colours chosen, availability of components, and the type of bike that the seat is being produced for, Australian-based customers can expect a turnaround time of 2-3 weeks, with most overseas customers typically receiving their seat within 3-4 weeks.

  • You’re welcome to go down the DIY route if you have access to an air powered stapler, ideally running 6mm staples. Follow our video tutorial here, and you shouldn’t have much trouble. A local furniture upholsterer or automotive upholsterer will make short work of it if you would prefer it done professionally, though pricing varies considerably across suppliers.

  • Yes, you will need to remove your stock seat cover to fit one of our custom Kelpi seat covers.

LED INDICATOR + HEADLIGHT FAQs

  • It depends on what was on previously - if you’re going from a stock halogen bulb setup, then in almost every instance you will need to swap out your old relay flasher for a suitable LED relay flasher. Please note that not all LED relay flashers are the same, varying in terms of resistance, frequency and inputs/outputs. In some instances where a highly specific relay flasher is used on your model of motorcycle, it may be more practical to run in-line resistors instead to bring the flash-rate down.

  • Our LED indicators are designed for universal fitment and can be installed on various motorcycle models. For specific compatibility information, please refer to the product details or contact us directly.

  • Our standard Blindsider Bullet Indicators use a simple two-wire connection (Indicator + Ground) with bullet connectors, offering easy installation for the vast majority of bikes.

Our 3-in-1 turn signals come with one cable that has four separate wires (Earth, Indicator, Tail Light, Brake Light). Installation is straightforward, with no need for external resistors, diodes, splitters or experience in wiring up electrical required. Crimped bullet connectors allow for easy plug-in compatibility across the widest range of motorcycles, with model specific plug and play connections available now for Yamaha and being expanded out into the future.

  • Our LED headlights are designed for universal fitment and can be installed on various motorcycle models. For specific compatibility information, please refer to the product details or contact us directly.

  • Our LED headlights all come with a standard H4 connector, which offers a plug and play solution for most bikes running a stock halogen headlight bulb. Yamaha XSR700s with factory LED Headlights (i.e. from 2022 onwards) run a different 6-pin headlight connector, with power for the lights coming directly from the ECU. Our LED headlights are not compatible with these bikes at this time.

  • Our headlights are designed for straightforward installation. However, depending on your motorcycle model, additional brackets or adapters may be required. Kelpi Custom Moto offers a universal LED headlight conversion kit that is suitable for most bikes — just call/email us to make sure we can supply the correct mounting brackets for your application. Additionally, if you have a Yamaha XSR700, we offer a bike-specific LED conversion kit for this model.

  • Yes, our LED headlights are E-mark certified, ensuring compliance with road safety standards.

MIRRORS FAQs

  • Our bar-end mirrors are designed for universal fitment, accommodating standard 22mm (7/8") inner diameter (most Japanese/European bikes), 1" (Harley Davidson models), and fat bar styles (1 ⅛” tapering to 7/8"). A minimum handlebar inner diameter of 14mm is required.

  • Yes, we provide Yamaha threaded bar-end mounts compatible with models such as XSR700, XSR900, MT07, MT09, MT10, FZ1, and FZ6/R.

  • Our mirrors feature a universal bar-end fitment with adapters suitable for various handlebar styles. Installation involves securing the mirror to the bar end using the provided hardware. For detailed instructions, please refer to the installation guide included with your mirrors or contact our support team for assistance.

  • Yes, our mirrors offer flexible positioning. For instance, the Splitter mirrors feature a swivel hinge and ball-end mount, allowing riders to tuck their mirrors while filtering and then quickly return them to their initial position without fine-tuning.

  • Our mirrors are compatible with handlebars that have an inner diameter of 14mm or more. If you're uncertain about compatibility, please contact us with your motorcycle's make and model, and we'll be happy to assist you.

ENGINE TUNING + INSTALLATION SUPPORT

  • We work closely with a small range of mechanics and fabricators that are our preferred suppliers for fitment and installation. That said, much of the range can be fitted easily with minimal tools and a half handy mate. Whilst any mechanical shop is able to do these sort of jobs, below is a list of high quality individuals who I couldn’t recommend more highly.

    Brisbane - Alex @ Skinny’s Garage

Sydney - Cam @ Deus Ex Machina

Canberra - Edward @ Eom Motorcycles

Melbourne - David @ Das Moto

  • Our exhaust systems generally run extremely well on the stock tune, particularly when used with our Standard baffle (included with all of our full exhaust systems). We only recommend further ECU tuning for our systems if you are using it with no baffle AND in conjunction with (aftermarket or modified) high-flow airboxes and filters. For Yamahas with a CP3 engine (MT09, XSR900, R9, Tracer 900, etc), we offer an in-house mail-in ECU reflashing service, with various options available depending on the modifications made to the bike (e.g. exhaust-only, exhaust + high flow airbox, etc), as well as rider mode settings.

Further support for ECU/dyno tuning can be arranged through our preferred partners below:
